The building

Hifumi (一二三) is the old Japanese way of counting: hi, fu, mi — one, two, three.

A small apartment hotel with paintings in the hallways.

Hifumi is a slim, blue-tiled building a few minutes from the Tenmabashi crossing. Every room is self-contained — two beds, a kitchenette, a bathtub — and the corridors are hung with oil paintings and kept green with plants.

The neighborhood

A year by the Okawa River
